October 2018 - 5 Day Photography Tour & Workshop
This is one of our most customizable tours.
We're happy to accommodate everything from individuals to groups of up to 10 people.
We can very easily adapt this photographic tour to your comfort level and physical abilities. This tour can also be one of our most strenuous, depending on weather conditions and group goals.
Southern Utah is largely a desert landscape with magnificent rock formations covering a vast amount of territory. In order to reach some locations, great distances may need to be covered, including unpaved roads, single track paths & dry stream beds.
Participants should expect to be exposed to harsh weather conditions, whether heat or cold, you should be prepared for an adventure.
Based on your criteria, we'll either manage this tour from comfortable accommodations in Moab, or for more adventurous groups, civilization can be just the starting point for desert outdoor adventures that can include overnight stays in the backcountry.
Arches National Monument
As is the case with many landscapes, the time of day and the weather conditions play a huge role in the outcome of your finished product; dramatic weather, including rain storms, snow storms, flooding and drought should be expected, and when managed with caution, can produce award winning images from your tour through Southern Utah.
Because of the variety of locations, weather and seasonal conditions, we're able to customize this trip based on your goals; the may include 4x4 transportation, adventure motorcycle, and in just about all cases, a lot of hiking.
You should approach this tour with a good understanding of the rigors involved, and personal insurance may be required.

Summer or winter, we do our best on this photo tour through beautiful southern Utah to shoot astrophotography at least once.
The small town Moab atmosphere offers us dark skies with little to no light pollution, and you'll want your tastes wide angle lens to take full advantage of the dazzling star filled skies.
Using advanced techniques, such as light painting and digital blending, we''ll be creating stunning imagery of the natural landscapes against starry skies.
If you've ever wanted to give Astrophotography a try, this is the place to do it, with the beauty of Arches National Monument as your foreground, with very little light pollution affecting the quality of the night skies.
For this tour, and especially for Astrophotography, you're going to need a sturdy tripod, a remote shutter release and a wide angle lens.
We'll make sure you understand the required techniques and will work with you 1:1 to help you through the steps required to ensure you get the kind of images you've seen online.
We'll also cover all the digital tools and apps we use to plan and execute the vision; from start to finish, we cover what you need to know.
After our work in the field is complete, we'll spend time on the post processing workflow so that by the time we're through, you'll have stunning images to add to your portfolio.
Dead Horse Point
If you're not familiar with this area of Southern Utah, but have a desire to test yourself and your camera, this tour can do both depending on the goals you establish.
While the point of this tour is photography, the nature of the southern Utah terrain may require substantial effort to reach our intended destination.
If you want a more adventurous tour, we are happy to work with you to establish your tour destinations to meet your goals, so please check with us in advance.
Trails throughout this region vary greatly, and you can expect them to be anything from a few feet from a paved road or parking area to miles of treacherously steep, narrow, and rocky trails that may have to be negotiated in low light or dark, moonless conditions depending on the nature of our photographic goals.
Longer trips will invariably take long enough that weather conditions and heat can be a factor, as will the requirement to carry your equipment, protective clothing and essential supplies, like water.
In some cases, we may elect to stay in the field overnight, which will require additional equipment. These overnight trips should be requested well in advance in order to ensure we are well prepared to provide any required outdoor equipment as a part of your tour.
The world renowned Mesa Arch is one of this tour's easily accessible destinations, requiring only a short walk from a paved parking area in Canyonlands National Park.
This is a very popular location, and can become quite crowed, so we arrange to be on location well in advance of the sunrise, which can make for a very early morning depending on the time of year.
On a typical day, you will be competing for a spot with many photographers from all over the world.
House on Fire
Located not far from Blanding, Utah, The House on Fire is a bit of an adventure walk, requiring us to trek along a trail following a dried stream that can quickly fill with water from storms upstream without warning.
This protected archeological site is tucked along a cliff wall, where the sun never directly shines, but the colors are brought out as the light is reflected back onto the walls from the large rock pan below.
The rock striations when illuminated at just the right angle, create the illusion of flames emitting from the ancient stonework. One had to wonder whether the prehistoric cliff dwellers realized what effect they had created or had they chosen this location for this very reason.
Either way, this is both a photographic and educational destination on our photographic tour.
